Police in riot gear went to American colleges after there were big fights over a war in Gaza.

Many police cars drove around the UCLA campus because there were fights between students who support Palestine and those who do not. The police were called to make sure everyone stayed safe.

At Columbia University in New York City, police were ready in case they needed to step in and stop the protests. Some students were upset to see police at their school.

Mark, a student at UCLA who is 22 years old, said that he doesn’t think there should be a lot of police officers on campus. He said this as he looked at the area from behind metal barriers.

I think it’s important to have security on campus to keep everyone safe.

At Columbia and City University of New York, police removed protesters during the night. Some students were upset because they thought the police were too rough and aggressive.

A student named Jose said that he and others were attacked, arrested very harshly, and he was held for a long time before being let go. He was hurt, stomped on, and had cuts on his body.

A student who is studying to become a doctor helped other students who were released from being held captive. They talked about all the different injuries the students had.

Isabel said that in the encampment, some people have gotten hurt really badly. They have had injuries like bad hits to the head, concussions, and even being knocked out by the police. Someone was also pushed down the stairs.

The police arrested about 300 people at Columbia and CUNY, according to Police Commissioner Edward Caban at a press conference on Wednesday.

Mayor Eric Adams said that people from outside the area were causing problems, but students at Columbia University say that people from outside were not involved.

The leader of the university, Minouche Shafik, is feeling very sad because of what happened with the police.

“I am sorry that we have reached this point,” she said in a statement.

On Tuesday night, police went onto Columbia’s campus and went into Hamilton Hall through a window on the second floor because it was blocked by protesters. They took some people away in handcuffs and also removed a big tent camp.

In Los Angeles, some people threw fireworks while others sprayed stuff onto a group of people supporting Palestine. They also tried to break down barriers before the police showed up.

On Wednesday, some students at the school used loudspeakers to tell the protesters to continue staying at the camp in front of the library. The library had “Free Gaza” written on it in graffiti.

Some students at Fordham University in New York, a school run by Jesuit priests, also protested on campus on Wednesday, as reported by US media.

In another place, the police went to a college called the University of Wisconsin at Madison and took away some people who were protesting. This was shown on TV.

Police officers wearing helmets and carrying sticks came to the University of Texas in Dallas and started taking apart a student camp there, as shown on TV.

At the University of Arizona, the police used a special kind of spray to make a big group of people leave because they were not supposed to be there.

The Gaza war began when a group called Hamas attacked Israel in a way that had never happened before. Many people, mostly innocent civilians, were killed in the fighting.
